As a crucial part of the construction the abutments almost
brought us sleepless nights. Its not a problem to calculate any
excavation but to find a way where the dimensions are still to handle
with manpower was extremly difficult. We really had to rack our brains
on it.
Finanlly the excavation is still
larger than we would have imagined in the beginning but we found a
way to develop the cavity step by step and safely for the
people who do the digging.
The
main concrete block to which all forces are transfered is 4x1x1.5
metres. It will enclose tension rods that lead outside the abutment.
There, the cables will be connected with clamps. This seems to be the
best technological solution, keeping in mind that we have to care for
corrosion protection (especially of the cables), durablity and
simplicity.
